It uses a Nature’s 2 stick in the filter box so you do not need harsh chemicals. It lasts 4 to 6 months. We clean the filter once a month. We do not use it like we did our old model at our old house when we were younger. Our friends even bought Hot Spring tubs after they used ours and learned how easy it was to take care of.
