This sale is for the 3" silver adapter rod only- NO black cylinder probe in the picture is included in the sale,. This adapter fits the threads of the Fisher XLT30, XLT17, XLT16 and little foot multi probe with threaded hole in the base. The silver adapter is to be used with a stock three foot metal 3/16 rod available at the Home Depot. Do to shipping limitations, we can not include the 3 foot rod in this sale. The 3 foot rod is to be glued with epoxy in the end of this adapting rod.
This adapter rod threads the assembly into the cylinder probe making a long "contact probe" out of the cylinder. BACKGROUND: The fisher leak detection instruments come with a set of probing rods that are threaded together to make a longer rod to make contact with hard points of a plumbing system. What many leak seekers do not know is the long rod can be used in swimming pools to listen to jets faces, lights, and suction pipes in the bottom of skimmers. This listening is done passively without pressure testing. The pool pump must be off and the area noise free.
Just the gravity pulling the the water out of the leaking fitting causes a noise much like the sound of a running faucet. The cylinder probe can hear this noise. Big woopie you say! Let me explain this adapters main use. Most commercial pools have a shelf skimmer system that consists of 15 gutter drains with grates covering the pipes.
Pressure testing these systems is close to impossible but these pipes constantly break at the first elbow just under the drain grate. The rods supplied with the Fisher unit are too big to fit inside the grates so you end up removing all the plastic grate covers. The 3/16" rod slips between the grates and is long enough to touch the bottom of the shelf drain pipe- listening to the 1st elbow under the shelf without removing the shelf grate. This is where most of the leaks ocour in a commercial pool. So in 15 minutes you can test an entire shelf drain system of a commercial pool with enough confidence to know if it is leaking or not.
While your circling the pool, use the long rod to touch upon the hard points such as lights and any ports that are available and listen to those also. This adapter is solid stainless steel 3.5" long and weigh 5.5 OZ . The adapter has a hole drilled for red caution tape to be hung from it for safety. The 3 foot steel rod is available at Home depot or Lowes, I would suggest making a PVC tube holder with threaded cap while you are there. Come look at our other listings for leak detection.
